Mental Health/Wellness
-
Mental health and wellness include our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices.
Schools create safe and positive learning environments to meet the needs of all learners, including required instruction of resiliency standards and universal strategies. Students may also benefit from targeted interventions from our student support staff or referrals to outside mental health agencies pursuant to the requirements of Parental Rights s.1001.42 F.S.
Youth Mental Health Awareness Training
Consistent with s.1012.584 F.S., the Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) training program helps school personnel identify and understand the signs of mental health concerns and substance use disorders. The program outlines next steps to find help for a person who is developing or experiencing mental health concerns or a substance use disorder. School districts are required to maintain 80% of all staff to be actively trained in this program.
Crisis Response Team
The Crisis Response Team follows a comprehensive and systematic approach to providing emergency support for the school administration when responding to a major schoolwide loss or crisis. The Team focuses on supporting students and staff, functioning as a bridge between the school and community resources as needed.
