Behavioral Threat Management
-
In response to continued acts of violence in schools and communities across Florida and the United States, the School District of Manatee County (SDMC) is committed to providing a safe and secure learning environment for our students, staff, and all school community members.
During the 2019-2020 school year, SDMC joined all school districts across the state of Florida in adopting the Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG), developed by Dr. Dewey Cornell. Beginning with the 2022-2023 school year, all counties in the state adopted the new Florida model for Behavioral Threat Management. The emphasis of this shift was to focus on concerning behaviors (rather than just threats) and the management of the interventions and safety plans developed for those individuals exhibiting concerning behaviors. Through a process of continuous training and support, school-based Threat Management Teams are able to effectively address any reported concerns and help protect our schools and communities from acts of targeted violence.
