FREE SUMMER READING BOOKS FOR QUALIFYING STUDENTS

The Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading is making it easier to help you support your child’s reading activity this summer — with FREE programs for grades PreK–5. Students entering or leaving grades PreK - 3rd grade can qualify to receive 20 FREE books in the summer.

Inspire your kiddo to become a confident reader through the Suncoast Summer Reading Challenge! Reading is one of the most important skills your child can master. There is a strong connection between reading skills and overall academic and life success. Research shows that children who do not read regularly can lose two months or more of reading skills over the summer. Reading just six books at the appropriate reading level during the summer can help your child soar during the school year. Help your child become an enthusiastic reader by supporting their reading activity during the summer months.

SCGLR will distribute books and hand out rewards to qualifying* children, grades PreK–3, who are registered and fully participating in THIS BOOK IS COOL! To maintain an active status in THIS BOOK IS COOL!, parents must submit a weekly total of the number of books their child has read.

    Tampa Rays

    Reading with the Rays

Once again, the Tampa Bay Rays, Tampa Bay-area libraries, Suncoast Credit Union and the Tampa Bay Times Newspaper in Education program have teamed up to create a lineup of free summer reading fun to encourage and reward students for reading. Everyone’s commitment to education in our community makes this an exciting matchup, especially with this year’s special theme: Imagine Your Story. By reading books, graphic novels and newspaper articles this summer, all students in grades kindergarten through 12 in Charlotte, Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sarasota counties can participate and read their way to Tropicana Field. The reward for reading 24 hours is two tickets to Tropicana Field to see the Rays in action. Check out this publication and the Reading with the Rays website at tampabay.com/nie/ raysreading and get some great book suggestions to jog your imagination throughout summer vacation.
