Panthers Believe! Panthers ACHIEVE!

battle team

On Wednesday, April 21st the School District of Manatee County hosted a middle school Battle of the Books Competition. Held virtually, each participating school met as a team on their campus and competed using Microsoft TEAMS. The virtual competition was hosted by Mr. Andy Larson of Cranium Core, and the teams answered 15 questions, one for each of the Sunshine State Young Reader Award (SSYRA) winning books. Each team was given points for their correct answers and for using the book to provide textual support for their responses. This year the Braden River Middle School Panthers defeated Buffalo Creek, Dr. Mona Jain, and Nolan to retain their first-place title for the second annual middle school competition. It was a wonderful celebration of literacy and teamwork. This year’s winning team was composed of three new members: Noelle Dillon (8th), Alanna Hall (7th), Adolynn Lee (6th) and two returning members:  Hannah Taylor (7th), Bella Oliveira (7th), and was coached by Media Specialist Kelly Chambers.

Adopt a Family

Our Adopt a Family Program

A wonderful tradition began at Braden River Middle School in December of 1991.  The students and staff “adopted” families for the holidays.  As our population changed, the teachers decided the students adopted should be from within our school family. With the added home and work stress from COVID-19,  the need is even greater.   In “normal” years, we hold a magical Snowcoming fundraiser dance and do special and unique activities in a variety of classrooms.  Due to CDC restrictions and our commitment to protecting our students and staff, we were unable to do any of these classroom or schoolwide fundraisers.  The BRMS elves decided, COVID notwithstanding, we would still respond to the need to help our BRMS families.  Teachers and staff contributed money for the fun of wearing jeans to school!  While our program was smaller this year than in previous years, the spirit of giving was prevalent.  We were able to adopt 19 students from within our BRMS family.  Santa’s elves contributed 16 bikes, clothes, shoes and toys! Our sincere thanks to the District social workers and our BRMS staff for making the holidays brighter for these families.  Our sincere wishes to you and your family for a safe and healthy holidays and a GREAT 2021!!!

Thank you Ms. Gillen for continuing this tradition and ensuring that our Panthers have a wonderful holidays.

Hello From BRMS!

We are a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Lighthouse School!

"We moved from a Points of Light school, surpassed the Beacon of Light status and went all the way in less than a year. That's a major accomplishment!!! This was earned by every student, parent, teacher and staff member in our school's community. This really was about YOU!" - Mrs. Zenon-Richardson, April 20, 2020

Final Scoreboard

After a year of reading and preparing for the game show, quiz competition versus eight other SDMC middle schools, BRMS' team of four students took the lead in the very first question and they held on to it throughout the entire event. The team met during lunch times and made their book club discussions and quizzing preparations a priority in their trainings. Media Specialist, Ms. Kelly Flynn, is the team sponsor. Learn more about joining the team for next year by visiting the BRMS website and going to the Activities drop down tab. March 13, 2020
