Our professional learning department offers many leadership opportunities. The School District of Manatee County is committed to ongoing improvement towards student achievement, establishing positive learning environments, fostering positive professional relationships, building a culture of trust, communicating clearly, and nurturing teacher success.
Aspiring Leaders
-
The Aspiring Leaders program is a Level I Certification program designed to prepare instructional leaders for the Assistant Principal Pipeline. During the year-long program, participants may earn 60+ Inservice Points through face-to-face and online components. Applicants must be current SDMC employees. The application deadline is August 4th each year.

Aspiring Leaders Qualifications
Aspiring Leaders Candidates MUST meet the following qualifications:
- Current Florida Professional Educator Certificate
- Educational Leadership Certification
- Passed FELE
- 3 years Highly Effective evaluation rating
- 3 Recommendations with one from your current Principal.

Apply for Aspiring Leaders
To apply for Aspiring Leaders:
- Complete the Aspiring Leaders Application (only fully completed applications will be accepted).
- Hold a Current Florida Professional Educator Certificate
- Have a Master's degree or higher, which designates Educational Leadership, Administration, or Administration/Supervision, or a master's degree or higher with Educational Leadership certification.
- Have a Certificate of Passing the FELE (Florida Educational Leadership Exam)
- Submit an updated Resume that includes five years of teaching experience
- Have 3 recommendations, with one from your current principal/supervisor. They must complete the Recommendation Form.
Assistant Principal Pipeline

Applicants must hold a state certificate for Educational Leadership, and have three or more years of successful teaching experience, with a minimum of 2 years of leadership experience. Out-of-County and Out-of-State applicants who meet the requirements are welcome to apply.
It is strongly recommended that applicants have completed a leadership program. In-county applicants are encouraged to provide evidence of successful completion of the Aspiring Leaders program, along with the completion of the Florida Educational Leadership Standards Portfolio Project.

Assistant Principal Pipeline Qualifications
Assistant Principal Pipeline Candidates MUST meet the following qualifications:

Possess Educational Leadership Certification with a Masters' Degree or higher.

Passed the Florida Educational Leadership Exam (FELE.)

Complete a minimum of three successful years of teaching.

Have a minimum of two years of leadership experience.

Submit three letters of reference, a resume, and Florida Teaching Certificate

Completion of a leadership program such as the Aspiring Leaders program is strongly recommended.

Level II Principal Development
-
The Level II Principal Certification program is designed for Assistant Principals, currently employed by SDMC, who are seeking Level II certification to become a principal. Participants must have completed 3 or more years of administrative experience.
Entrance into the program is by invitation from the Executive Directors. If selected, participants will attend the Gulf Coast Partnership (GCP) Resident Program. Candidates who successfully complete the Level II Principal Certification program will be eligible to apply for the Principal Pipeline.

Principal Pipeline Qualifications
Principal Pipeline Candidates MUST meet the following qualifications:
- Master's degree from an accredited educational institution.
- Certification in Educational Leadership and Level II School Principal.
- Three (3) years or more of successful administrative experience.
- Three (3) years or more of successful teaching experience.
- Completion of District's Principal Training Program is strongly recommended.
